Prince Albert II of Monaco arrived in Manila last Wednesday 8 Apr. This is not Prince Albert’s first visit to the Philippines, though it is his first as head of state of the Principality of Monaco.
He first came to the Philippines in 1999, representing his father, the late Prince Rainier, upon the invitation of then President Joseph Estrada.
Prince Albert on Thursday received the symbolic key to the city of Manila during his official visit to the country.
Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada handed the symbolic key as the Monaco royal laid a wreath at the Rizal Monument.
After the wreath-laying ceremony the prince visited Malacañan to meet President Benigno Aquino III. He was received with a traditional welcome ceremony at the Palace grounds.
The two leaders were expected discuss bilateral issues on economic cooperation, humanitarian assistance, sustainable development and environmental protection.
